How Brilliant Little Gems began

In April of this year Brilliant Little Gems (BLG) celebrated her first birthday 🎉

This has prompted some reflections about the origin story of BLG and the journey traversed in the past year.

Let me start from the very beginning. Originally BLG was inspired by a number of things, inclusive of: my own lived experience, a professional background working with children & families (social work) and a seemingly never-ending passion for learning about and embracing Autism and ADHD.

To add to this, I found I had the ability to have hours long conversations about Neurodivergence without tiring (read: major passion area).

BLG sprung to life surprisingly quickly, in just a few short weeks it progressed from an idea to a reality. Initially, I had a growing sense that something new was calling me.

I was teaching within Community Services at the time and had no plans to return to Social Work practice. I recall there being a day in March 2023, when I realised that it was time to pay attention to what was calling to me.

I met with a trusted confidante for the purpose of exploring this, which allowed for a wonderfully insightful conversation supported by use of the soul call cards. The idea of supporting ND families through working with parents emerged in that conversation.

Soon after, with a bit of research and planning- BLG was transformed from an idea to reality through the creation of the web-site.

It’s been a wonderful year of learning, growth and brilliant conversations.
